When I arrived in the Big Apple last week, I was starving. After taking a very early flight and skipping breakfast, I was ready for some lunch at one of the top gluten free recommendations I’d been given. Since the first half of my trip was in Midtown West near Times Square, I decided to try out Nizza. Nizza is an Italian restaurant with a café-like atmosphere.
Nizza has a separate gluten free menu for both lunch and dinner, and there is a sticker outside the restaurant noting Nizza as a participating restaurant with the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America. The gluten free menu has a good selection of salads, antipasti, pastas, soccas (crispy chickpea pancakes), and main dishes (chicken, salmon, veal, steak, and more).
Gnocchi Al Forno
I ordered the gnocchi al forno, described as oven roasted potato gnocchi with tomato cream and quattro formaggi with a price of $16.50. The waitress asked me if I would like some complimentary gluten free bread with my meal and naturally I said yes. I figured I would have a bite and concentrate on the entrée. Well, the gluten free bread that was brought out was outstanding! I have no idea what brand it was, but it was very moist and chewy and tasted like real pieces of garlic bread. As for the entrée, I am not at all exaggerating when I say that it was HEAVENLY. I love cheese and it was extremely cheesy, and the portion size was perfect – not too big to be overwhelming but not small enough to leave you hungry.
I highly recommend you check out Nizza if you are in the Midtown West/Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. Due to their wide variety of delicious Italian fare, this is the perfect spot for a meal before or after a Broadway show!
