Recently I ate at PF Chang’s for dinner. I had eaten there several times since going gluten free, but it had been at least 2 years since my last visit. If you haven’t eaten at PF Chang’s before, they have a gluten free menu and here’s the kicker – it’s printed on the regular menu that everyone receives! It was so nice not having to ask for a ‘gluten free menu.’ I felt normal again! They also serve all gluten free dishes on a special PF Chang’s plate to differentiate them from regular dishes.
The gluten free portion of the menu has quite a few choices, particularly for entrees. For appetizer, we ordered the gluten free Chang’s chicken lettuce wraps – what I remembered as being one of their signature dishes. They were delicious! However, for ten dollars, I expected to get more than 3 little pieces of lettuce. Since there were 3 of us in my group, we each only got 1 lettuce wrap. I seemed to have remembered the portion being bigger in the past.

As an entree, I ordered the gluten free Chang’s combination fried rice which included beef, chicken, pork, and shrimp. The portion for the fried rice was huge! I couldn’t eat it all and had enough for lunch the following day. It was also had a delicious flavor!

I convinced one of my friends to order his ginger chicken with broccoli gluten free so that I could try a bite. It was also very good.

Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience eating at PF Chang’s. I appreciate the fact that they have such an extensive menu of gluten free choices and the fact that they serve our dishes clearly marked with a special plate.
The challenge with restaurant chains in general is consistency. I can go eat at a PF Chang’s in my area and highly recommend it, but someone else might eat at their local PF Chang’s and get glutened. After all, food prep could vary from location to location, and there are no guarantees. You just never know, and as celiacs, it’s a risk we take every time we eat out – no matter the restaurant.
