Review: Fahrenheit – Charlotte, NC

A new restaurant called Fahrenheit recently opened in Charlotte, and I had a chance to go check it out this past week.  I had some friends coming to town and since Fahrenheit has been described as “Charlotte’s only rooftop restaurant,” I knew this would be a great place to taken them so they got the best view of the city.  It is also known for being one of Chef Rocco Whalen’s restaurants although I’m not much of a true ‘foodie’ so that didn’t really matter to me.  The restaurant itself is attached to the Hyatt Place hotel and is located on the 21st floor.

Once we decided on the spot, one of my friends called ahead to get us reservations since it was our understanding that Fahrenheit can get very crowded.  We arrived and were taken to our table overlooking beautiful uptown Charlotte.  I was pleased to see a gluten free menu waiting for me, and the waiters were extremely knowledgeable about gluten free and eagerly answered all of my questions.  For an appetizer, I had the Crispy Cauliflower which was very good and I’m not even a cauliflower fan.  For an entree, I ordered the Coffee and Mustard Crusted Pork Tenderloin which came with whipped sweet potatoes spinach. It also had maple syrup poured over the pork tenderloin with some macadamia nuts sprinkled on top.  I am not being the least bit dramatic when I say that it was TO DIE FOR!  Seriously, it was literally the best meal I’ve had all year.  The pork was tender and juicy and the sweet potatoes were heavenly.

The non-gluten free people in my group had the King Salmon and Butter Poached Lobster Mac and Cheese.  Let me tell you, if I didn’t have to eat gluten free, I would have inhaled that lobster mac and cheese!  Hopefully they will have a gluten free version of it soon!  The only negative thing I will say is that the restaurant filled up quite quickly and got rather loud so it was hard to hear everyone at our table.  However, when that happened we ordered more wine and stepped outside on the terrace to enjoy the view and more conversation.  They also have a large bar and lounge area if the weather is not suitable and you can still appreciate the view of the city.  I will without a doubt be returning to Fahrenheit and will also keep it in mind for my future out of town guests!
